Musichasalwaysbeenahugepartofmylife.Asateenager,Ilistenedtoalotofrockandalternativemusic.Myfriends,whowerealsointothisgenre,playedamajorroleinmymusicalpreferences.Iwantedtofitinandbepartoftheirgroup,soIadoptedtheirtasteinmusic.Lookingback,Irealizethatmychoiceofmusicwasheavilyinfluencedbymydesiretobelong.However,Iamgratefulforthispreferenceasitintroducedmetomanygreatartistsandhelpedmedevelopmyowntasteinmusic.

Inmyearlytwenties,Idevelopedalovefortravel.Ipreferredexploringnewplacesandexperiencingdifferentculturesovermaterialpossessions.Ichosetospendmymoneyontravelratherthanbuyinganewcarorfancygadgets.Thispreferencestemmedfrommydesiretogainnewexperiencesandbroadenmyhorizons.However,Ialsorecognizetheprivilegethatallowedmetomakethischoice.Noteveryonehasthefinancialmeanstotravel,andIamgratefulfortheopportunitiesthathaveallowedmetodoso.
ThirdPreference:Vegetarianism
Attheageof25,Imadethechoicetobecomeavegetarian.Thispreferencewaslargelydrivenbymyconcernforanimalwelfareandtheenvironment.Ihadlearnedabouttheimpactofthemeatanddairyindustryontheenvironmentandthecrueltyinvolvedinanimalagriculture.IrealizedthatIdidnotwanttocontributetotheseissues,andsoIchosetoeliminatemeatfrommydiet.Thispreferencehasbeenchallengingattimes,especiallywhendiningoutorattendingsocialevents,butithasalsoledmetodiscovernewanddeliciousplant-basedfoods.
