Asthesemesterdrawstoaclose,ourmiddleschoolEnglishteachingresearchgrouphasmuchtoreflecton.Wehavecoveredarangeoftopicsthissemester,fromstrategiesforteachinggrammartowaystointegratetechnologyintotheclassroom.Throughitall,wehavelearnedagreatdealandhavegrownbothasindividualteachersandasateam.
CollaborativeLearning
Oneofthemostsignificantbenefitsofourresearchgrouphasbeentheopportunitytocollaboratewithourcolleagues.Throughourregularmeetingsanddiscussions,wehavebeenabletoshareideas,insightsandstrategiesthathavebeensuccessfulinourclassrooms.Wehavealsobeenabletoprovideeachotherwithconstructivefeedback,bothonourlessonplansandonourteachingtechniques.Thishasallowedustocontinuallyimproveandrefineourskillsintheclassroom.
ProfessionalDevelopment
Wehavealsofoundthatourresearchgrouphasbeenanexcellentsourceofprofessionaldevelopment.Throughthereadingswehaveassignedtoeachotherandthepresentationswehavegiven,wehavedeepenedourunderstandingofteachingandlearningingeneralandofEnglishlanguageinstructioninparticular.Wehavebeenabletoexamineresearchonpedagogyandputintopracticesomeofthenewestandmosteffectiveteachingtechniques.Thishasallowedustoadaptourteachingmethodstobettermeettheneedsofourstudents,andhashelpedustocreateamoreengagingandeffectivelearningenvironment.
ImpactonStudentLearning
Mostimportantly,however,wehaveseentheimpactthatourworkhashadonourstudents.Aswehavetriedoutnewstrategiesandtechniquesintheclassroom,wehaveseenourstudentsbecomemoreengaged,moremotivatedandmoresuccessfullearners.Newmethodsforteachingreadingcomprehensionhaveledtoimprovedtestscores,whileincorporatingtechnologyintotheclassroomhasmadelessonsmoreinteractiveandengaging.Theskillsandstrategieswehavedevelopedthroughourresearchgrouphaveallowedustocreateamoredynamicandeffectivelearningenvironment,ultimatelybenefitingthestudentsweserve.
Overall,themiddleschoolEnglishteachingresearchgrouphasbeenavaluableexperienceforallofusinvolved.Wehavegrownasteachers,gainednewinsightsandstrategies,andhavebeenabletocreateamoreeffectivelearningenvironmentforourstudents.Welookforwardtocontinuingourcollaborationinthefutureandtoseeingthecontinuedpositiveimpactofourworkonstudentlearning.
